Very informative - We are bookkeepers and are often asked what the difference is. We also deal with many different accountants who think they can do the work of a bookkeeper. As we say to our clients, being a carpenter does not necessarily make you a builder, and being a builder does not mean that you have to be a good carpenter.

Accountants are generally too busy to do the everyday recording of transactions. If they tell you that they can do your bookkeeping, be warned. Either they are going to be charging you too much and sub-contracting the bookkeeping to a bookkeeper, or dare we say, they do not have enough accounting clients to make a living and have resorted to doing bookkeeping
